Meet Kristen Herbst
When my oldest boys were in 6th grade, a 7th grade student and fellow youth group member, Kyle Gardener, started a huddle at the Selma Middle School (it had originally met with the High School at WHS and had very poor attendance). When he was in 8th grade and Nathan and Alex were in 7th grade, Kyle asked them to take over. They were very uncertain about their ability to do that. We nervously talked about it and decided that I would help them to take on this role and boy did we have a BIG LEARNING CURVE! But we survived and I hope we didn't turn too many people off with our combined total lack of experience. I have been a Huddle Coach ever since--which is 6 years now.
Many of my student leaders go on to lead in the high school and that makes me very proud! The fact that the kids get up early and come each week is a testimony (I never would have!). My hope and prayer is that this ministry is impactful, and that we as SMS FCA will be a part/a beginning, to someone's amazing testimony.
Your favorite FCA memory....Watching my son Nathan, the shy 7th grader who didn't want to lead FCA, speak and share his testimony at the FCA banquet in front of hundreds of adults. And seeing him lead prayer circles at cross country sectionals, regionals, semi-state and state! So awesome!!!
